Hi, I’m Vasil Kosturski, a Software Architect with over 15 years of experience, based in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

As a Senior Principal Engineer at Smartsheet, I lead the AI Ecosystem domain, with a focus on agentic integrations and MCP. My team took the Smartsheet MCP Server from concept to general availability, and I co-wrote the story of how we built it for the AWS Machine Learning Blog.

Before Smartsheet, I spent over a decade designing large-scale distributed systems, most recently event streaming for live sports data at Sportradar.

During my career, it has become apparent to me that truly understanding a concept often comes from the ability to articulate it to someone else, especially in writing. That’s why this blog exists. The posts here are long-form deep dives: how async/await works under the hood, what causal consistency means in MongoDB, running Kafka in production, and lately, multi-agent AI systems.

Experience

  • Smartsheet, Senior Principal Engineer. Leading the AI Ecosystem domain, with a focus on agentic integrations and MCP; took the Smartsheet MCP Server from concept to general availability.
  • Sportradar, Tech Lead, earlier Senior Developer. Event streaming for live sports data, close to two million events a day; event sourcing with the outbox pattern; command and query separation for the APIs; stream processing with Apache Flink.
  • P3 Bulgaria, Team Lead, after several engineering roles. Led a team of eight across the whole delivery cycle; built a query language in C# and ANTLR that compiles to MongoDB filters; computer vision R&D.
  • Technical University of Sofia, MS in Computer Systems and Technologies.
